Helping Veterans Ride Again Poker Chip Run

The ride starts at Steel Horse Harley-Davidson®, 11501 Hull Street Raod in Midothian. Registration is from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. The ride fee is $20.00 for the rider and $10.00 for a passenger. The ride ends in Powhatan with live entertainment, food, raffles, 50/50 drawing, silent auction and more. Tours of the equestrian center will be available. The event will be supporting Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center.

Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Virginia organization. It was founded in January 2008 with just 3 riders and a couple of horses. Their mission is to provide a safe, relaxing, and peaceful place for Veterans with special needs and disabilities to receive the benefits of therapeutic riding and equine-related activities. They have provided over 3000 therapeutic rides at no cost for Veterans ranging in age from early twenties to over 90 years old. Their programs are designed to improve muscle tone, balance, and mobility of physically disabled veterans while providing mental stimulation, enhanced self-confidence, and self-esteem. Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center started its program in January 2008 with three riders twice a month. Since that time they have placed over 3000 Veterans on horseback with outstanding results. Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center has been receiving Veterans from McGuire Hospital, Sitter and Barfoot. As of January 1, 2021 they are also accepting first responders to ride.
